We Will Support Amotekun with N3.6m Naira - David Yombo
The Vice
President of The Economic Liberation Congress, an organization that seeks to
see that majority of Nigerians home and abroad are economically empowered
through a secured and safe political environment in Nigeria, Mr. David Yombo Adewuyi, announced through an
online media platform, YouTube.com that his organization is ready to support South
Western regional security outfit code-named “Operation Amotekun” with the sum of
N3.6m and rally other like-minded groups for more support for the security
outfit in the six states in the region.
Speaking
further on Amotekun, he said, his organization was in total support of the new
security outfit established by the six state governors of the region because
the region produces roughly half of the total revenue in the federations’ account.
Yombo said, “About 50% of the total revenue
that goes to the central government is derived from the south western region
and over forty thousand Nigerians have been killed by ISIS Nigeria, Boko haram,
Fulani herdsmen and the federal government has made no or little arrest and
have not been able to make any meaningful headway. That makes us to wonder if
this government is actually colluding with these terrorists, or the terrorists
are blackmailing the government or the government cannot use the brain
resources at her disposal to end this. Whichever way it is, it is time for the
people of Nigeria to secure themselves, therefore the Amotekun is a great
concept.
“To show our
solidarity, the Economic Liberation Congress has raised the sum of $10,000 to
support Amotekun. This money, we plan to send to different reputable
organizations that championed the course of Yoruba nation like Agbekoya,
Oduduwa People’s Congress under Iba Aare Gani Adams, and we will also like to
reach Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. We also hope that this solidarity and
love will be extended to other Oduduwa descendants in Kwara State, Edo State
and Delta States because we are one”
He opined that many farmers in the western
part of the country could not go to their farms again because of the fear of
insecurity to their lives and property and that indeed many Yorubas in Kogi,
Edo, Delta, Kwara were threatened by the current high state of insecurity.
Yombo
added,” we plead that whoever receives this money we will send, should ensure
that they are judiciously used to equip the Amotekun volunteer members, so that our fathers and mothers will be able to
go back to their farms and help solve our food insecurity in Nigeria. The Economic Liberation Congress is solidly
behind eradicating insecurity in western region in particular and Nigeria as a
whole”
You may
recall that following the launch of the security outfit in January 9 in Ibadan,
the capital of Oyo State Nigeria,
prominent groups, including foremost Yoruba Socio-
Cultural organization, Afenifere, Igbo apex socio-cultural group,
Ohanaeze, Northern Elders’ Forum and Middle Belt Associations, lauded the
initiative by the South – West governors.
But two days later, the Attorney General of the
Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, declared the security outfit illegal and
said it was contrary to the provisions of the Nigerian law.
