Ethnic Heritage Centre… The Place For Cultural Renainssance in Nigeria. Femi Ojo

Image
Ethnic Heritage Centre Building One of the artistic sculptures at EHC Our cultural identity is fast giving way to modernization. We are in a world where our indigenous languages are gradually going into extinction. We now embrace modernization without subjecting the concept to the logic of our cherished cultural heritage. Our culture is gradually going and we are losing what makes us unique and pristine. Our children can no longer speak their indigenous languages; they cannot communicate in the languages of their ancestors, those who manage to speak it, speak the bastardized modern variant of it and absurdly modernize what ought to be culturally pristine. Indeed we are losing it but there is a centre that is determined to preserve, protect and promote our cultural heritage in Lagos, Nigeria, called Ethnic Heritage Centre.   Ethnic Heritage Centre was established on the 19th of March 2013, primarily to preserve Nigerian indigenous languages and cultures by Mrs Nwamak

President Buhari’s Promising Beginning. Femi Ojo

Picture courtesy of Google It is more than 100 days now   President   Buhari has assumed office and within the first 100 days majority of my country people expected that the President would have tackled so many of the challenges confronting our nation. Within this period, the President has slowly but strategically begun a promising policy action that is revolutionizing the mindsets of Nigerians especially proximate political actors by showing how to embrace high moral standard in our polity.  One promising beginning which Mr. President has started that has   attracted commendations both nationally and internationally is his avowed frontal attack against corruption and the ripple effects on our political-economy and this   is indeed   highly commendable. The anti-corruption crusade of Buhari’s administration to me is a good beginning and if this can be sustained holistically, perhaps this will bring a new era of change which the current ruling party has over-hyped.

PRESIDENT BUHARI’S LEAN ASSETS Femi Ojo

Picture courtesy of Daily Post Sometime last week there was an answer to Nigerians' inquisitiveness on President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo assets declaration. Before now the main opposition party, Peoples’ Democratic Party and other notable Nigerians have been calling on the President and his Vice to declare their assets in order to set example for others and to approximate the ruling party’s mantra of ‘change ’to reality. After long polemics by many on this issue, Mr. President and his Vice did the needful and declared what they are truly worth. This we must commend Mr. Buhari and Prof. Osinbajo for in all sincerity. Going   memory’s lane especially in the history of our contemporary democratic experiment since 1999, Nigeria has had up till date four Presidents namely, President Obasanjo, late President Yar’Adua, former President Goodluck Jonathan and now President Buhari. I cannot remember if Obasanjo declared his assets publicly when he was Presi

FASHOLA’S BRUISING BATTLE WITH POLITICAL PIGS by Femi Ojo

“I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes     it” George Bernard Shaw Pix courtesy of google Once upon a time, he was the poster boy of his political party, the darling trailblazer and a shining star among equals. He was referenced for good governance not only among the members of his political party even the then ruling party found him too difficult to ignore in our polity. He was arguably the leading light among the 36 state governors in the country, his many policy models were copied by his mates in the South West and some other states in Nigeria as well. His many giant steps attracted international attention; he was always invited to share governance experience nationally and internationally by proximate political and economic actors. He was intellectually grounded and when he opened his mouth to talk, his words made more than common sense.   He was the love of all and the pride of his party even many     musical a
