Governor Ambode's Sterling Achievements in Lagos

 
 In the run-up to 2015 gubernatorial election in Lagos, there was this fear in me about how the ruling party would produce a successor governor that would consolidate the good works of the then Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Raji Babatunde Fashola. And  after all the political intrigues within the APC that threw up the current governor, Mr. Ambode as the flag bearer of his party, I became more worried. I was worried not because APC would not win the election but I was worried and afraid if Mr. Ambode could actually deliver and match up with the sterling achievements and the high standard that the then outgoing Governor, Mr. Raji Fashola has created.

After the gubernatorial election in Lagos and the incumbent Mr. Ambode was declared the winner of the election, I became more interested in Ambode's administration of  Lagos State and believe me, like many other Lagosians, I had an erroneous opinion of Mr. Ambode, in the first six months of his administration when it seemed nothing was happening, I was already drawing conclusion that Lagos might not be in a safe hand after all. I  thought that there was no way Ambode could match Fashola' sterling achievements talkless of consolidating or improving on what has been done by him. Sincerely,  I thought Lagosians had voted in a misfit to govern Nigeria's only megacity. I already thought that his tenure would only take Lagos back rather than move it forward. Erroneously, my slogan was " Ambode is sleeping and Lagos is moving backward"

But today, I can say that that slogan "Ambode is sleeping and Lagos is moving backward" was a slogan opined in misconception. My paradigm on Governor Ambode's administration has shifted to a man who understands the enormous responsibilities of his position as no 1 man of Nigeria's first mega city. In so many ways, Governor Ambode, has surprised many of us in less than two years of his administration with so many sterling achievements to boast of. While many other states in Nigeria particularly in the APC dominated South-Western part of the country are nothing to write home about in terms of new infrastructural development and creative governance, Lagos State under Governor Ambode is a blazing trail, consolidating on the existing infrastructures  and creatively building new ones across all geo-political divisions of the state.

In less than two years of Governor Ambode in office, the governor has quickly  redeemed some of his campaign promises on road rehabilitation, construction and security. The governor upon assumption of office, firstly reviewed the security situation met on ground and procured billions of naira worth of security equipment such as patrol vans, bikes, security kits etc for the police in the state. Governor Ambode has donated equipment and vehicles of various needs to all  security agencies in the state to boost their efforts in combating crime Lagos.

One area where Ambode has proven that he is no misfit is in the way and manner the governor is creatively solving in governanceNot only that, there is no political zone anyone goes to in Lagos today that will not see road construction, expansion or rehabilitation going on.
