JUST BEFORE THE ELECTIONS. Femi Ojo

Image
In some days now Nigerian voters will be trooping out in their millions to vote for their preferred candidates in the coming elections. For those politicians who are contesting in the coming elections the hour of opportunity is only a couple of days away to borrow Dr.   Amuta’s lexis.   2015 elections psephologically speaking will be one election in Nigeria’s history that will never be forgotten in a hurry. It is one election that we have seen the most clueless and unideological campaign across major dominating political parties. The fraught rhetoric of the ruling political party and the warmongering swagger of wound-up opposition party are what these coming elections symbolize. The day and hour of political verdict is near for politicians! Just before the elections, Nigerians should ponder on the significance of the political transition about to be taken place. Our people should know that this is yet another opportunity to take back  tomorrow which has been st...

AKALA: NOW THAT YOU ARE 70, WHAT NEXT? Femi Ojo

As Otunba Adebayo Alao- Akala, the former state Governor of Oyo State turns 70 on June 3rd, today, 2020, I read on various media channels how prominent Nigerians, majority of whom are politicians across party divides including his hitherto political foes; have been pouring encomiums on the Ogbomoso born  quintessential politician.  In those approbations,  I see  a common vein that runs across their messages on  a consummate political persona called “oyato”. Ethnic Heritage Centre… The Place For Cultural Renainssance in Nigeria. Femi Ojo

Image
Ethnic Heritage Centre Building One of the artistic sculptures at EHC Our cultural identity is fast giving way to modernization. We are in a world where our indigenous languages are gradually going into extinction. We now embrace modernization without subjecting the concept to the logic of our cherished cultural heritage. Our culture is gradually going and we are losing what makes us unique and pristine. Our children can no longer speak their indigenous languages; they cannot communicate in the languages of their ancestors, those who manage to speak it, speak the bastardized modern variant of it and absurdly modernize what ought to be culturally pristine. Indeed we are losing it but there is a centre that is determined to preserve, protect and promote our cultural heritage in Lagos, Nigeria, called Ethnic Heritage Centre.   Ethnic Heritage Centre was established on the 19th of March 2013, primarily to preserve Nigerian indigenous languages and cultures by Mrs Nw...
