JUST BEFORE THE ELECTIONS. Femi Ojo

Image
In some days now Nigerian voters will be trooping out in their millions to vote for their preferred candidates in the coming elections. For those politicians who are contesting in the coming elections the hour of opportunity is only a couple of days away to borrow Dr.   Amuta’s lexis.   2015 elections psephologically speaking will be one election in Nigeria’s history that will never be forgotten in a hurry. It is one election that we have seen the most clueless and unideological campaign across major dominating political parties. The fraught rhetoric of the ruling political party and the warmongering swagger of wound-up opposition party are what these coming elections symbolize. Image
Ethnic Heritage Centre Building One of the artistic sculptures at EHC Our cultural identity is fast giving way to modernization. We are in a world where our indigenous languages are gradually going into extinction. We now embrace modernization without subjecting the concept to the logic of our cherished cultural heritage. Our culture is gradually going and we are losing what makes us unique and pristine. Our children can no longer speak their indigenous languages; they cannot communicate in the languages of their ancestors, those who manage to speak it, speak the bastardized modern variant of it and absurdly modernize what ought to be culturally pristine. Indeed we are losing it but there is a centre that is determined to preserve, protect and promote our cultural heritage in Lagos, Nigeria, called Ethnic Heritage Centre.   Ethnic Heritage Centre was established on the 19th of March 2013, primarily to preserve Nigerian indigenous languages and cultures by Mrs Nw...
