NIGERIA’S UNPROVEN THIEVING EX-MINISTER Femi Ojo

Image
Picture courtesy of ekekeee.com The cyber world went viral last week on a Nigerian, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, Nigeria’s former petroleum minister in President Jonathan’s administration. The cyber noise on madam Diezani was neither because she did something patriotic nor because she won any international award for herself.   The nature of the news on the former minister was something debauched…Diezani was arrested in the United Kingdom for suspicion of bribery and money laundering by National Crime Agency in the United Kingdom.  Previously she had been accused of large scale sleaze in the management of the country’s multi-billion-dollar oil wealth but severally she denied any wrong- doing. Her strong affinity with the   former President Jonathan was not something in obscurity   and not even the indictment of the then House of Representatives against her or the probe by independent audit firms of KPMG and PWC that confirmed billions of oil money...

OF SARAKI’S SOAP OPERA, TRAGIC COMEDY, THE INCOMING MINISTERS AND NIGERIA’S 55TH INDEPENDENCE Femi Ojo

Picture Courtesy of naijaloaded.com No doubt the most political trending event currently in Nigeria is the ongoing corruption case against Senator Olubukola Saraki, the President of the Senate at the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja, Nigeria. The trial is centered on his false declaration of assets while he was the governor of Kwara State some years back. Saraki’s problem is self-inflicted and it was firstly, his ambition to become the President of the Senate against his party’s position that was the metamorphosis of his travails. The political soap opera started from his illusory entry to the premises of the National Assembly on the day of his election and his subsequent endorsement by all the 49 senators of the PDP and some few senators of the ruling party. This was the day he drew the battle line between his party and himself. Ever since he became the President of the Senate, the political colourations and permutations in the ruling party changed with his fraternity wi...

Ethnic Heritage Centre… The Place For Cultural Renainssance in Nigeria. Femi Ojo

Image
Ethnic Heritage Centre Building One of the artistic sculptures at EHC Our cultural identity is fast giving way to modernization. We are in a world where our indigenous languages are gradually going into extinction. We now embrace modernization without subjecting the concept to the logic of our cherished cultural heritage. Our culture is gradually going and we are losing what makes us unique and pristine. Our children can no longer speak their indigenous languages; they cannot communicate in the languages of their ancestors, those who manage to speak it, speak the bastardized modern variant of it and absurdly modernize what ought to be culturally pristine. Indeed we are losing it but there is a centre that is determined to preserve, protect and promote our cultural heritage in Lagos, Nigeria, called Ethnic Heritage Centre.   Ethnic Heritage Centre was established on the 19th of March 2013, primarily to preserve Nigerian indigenous languages and cultures by Mrs Nw...

President Buhari’s Promising Beginning. Femi Ojo

Image
Picture courtesy of Google It is more than 100 days now   President   Buhari has assumed office and within the first 100 days majority of my country people expected that the President would have tackled so many of the challenges confronting our nation. Within this period, the President has slowly but strategically begun a promising policy action that is revolutionizing the mindsets of Nigerians especially proximate political actors by showing how to embrace high moral standard in our polity.  One promising beginning which Mr. President has started that has   attracted commendations both nationally and internationally is his avowed frontal attack against corruption and the ripple effects on our political-economy and this   is indeed   highly commendable. The anti-corruption crusade of Buhari’s administration to me is a good beginning and if this can be sustained holistically, perhaps this will bring a new era of change which the current r...

PRESIDENT BUHARI’S LEAN ASSETS Femi Ojo

Image
Picture courtesy of Daily Post Sometime last week there was an answer to Nigerians' inquisitiveness on President Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo assets declaration. Before now the main opposition party, Peoples’ Democratic Party and other notable Nigerians have been calling on the President and his Vice to declare their assets in order to set example for others and to approximate the ruling party’s mantra of ‘change ’to reality. After long polemics by many on this issue, Mr. President and his Vice did the needful and declared what they are truly worth. This we must commend Mr. Buhari and Prof. Osinbajo for in all sincerity. Going   memory’s lane especially in the history of our contemporary democratic experiment since 1999, Nigeria has had up till date four Presidents namely, President Obasanjo, late President Yar’Adua, former President Goodluck Jonathan and now President Buhari. I cannot remember if Obasanjo declared his assets publicly when he was Presi...
